About
Wannes Wynants

Wannes Wynants graduated from the Fontys Academy for Dance Education. Initially studying horticulture, he discovered his passion for dance, which ultimately transformed into a fulfilling career. After completing his studies, he began working as a dance teacher in part-time arts education, specializing in contemporary dance, classical ballet, artistic training, and general movement studies. Wannes also teaches exploration at De Wijnpers secondary school, where he engages his students in discussions about identity, diversity, and the intersections of art and culture.

Currently, Wannes is part of the Cocon network, led by Jennifer Regidor, collaborating on various projects with her. In addition to this, he works as an independent choreographer, dancer, and educator. Wannes is also the founder of his own interdisciplinary performing arts company, ‘Double V,’ where he partners with a theater maker to create thought-provoking performances that tackle challenging themes.

In terms of his professional experience, the 2023-2024 school year marks Wannes's first year since graduation. During his final year at Fontys Academy, he specialized in working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, creating a performance with a group from the theater school Babs. He also focused on contemporary dance and Lindy Hop, further expanding his dance repertoire. Additionally, he performed in "Pluto," choreographed by Ree Esterhuizen, and premiered his own production, "Bang," which was the inaugural production of Double V. Throughout his studies, Wannes danced in "A Distance Only I Can See" by Noor Van Gestel and participated in the educational performance “Schijn” by Karolien Verlinden.

Moreover, he performed as a guest dancer in the ballet production "La Fille Mal Gardée" with the Beringen Ballet Academy, in collaboration with Balletschool Harlekijn. Wannes also took part in De Grote Belgische Dansvitrine with the piece ‘Wervelwind’ by Compagnie Modaté, and this year he toured with the piece "Peace Please" by Compagnie Cocon. Together with Compagnie Cocon, he engaged in various events and projects, such as Dans Door Leuven and the URVM parade.

Currently, Wannes is focused on developing a new production under the name Double V.

This is me:

Here I am... I am Wannes Wynants, a Teaching Dance Maker who stimulates audiences in multiple ways through interdisciplinary theater by presenting socially relevant themes without imposing my viewpoint. My goal is to showcase perspectives that encourage the audience to learn, translating my role as an educator in a broader sense.
